Biography
Growing up in the Texas Panhandle, Susan became a student of painting at the
age of 12 and studied with Ruth Biffle, Jon Birdsong and Lu Hansen of Amarillo,
Texas during her junior high and high school years. Susan holds a Bachelor of
Fine Arts in Interior Design from Texas Tech University and pursued her other
passion, interior architecture and design upon graduation in 1982. In 1991
Susan took up painting again and studied with Kandy Tate in Wichita. She has a
particular interest in portraiture and traditional realism and became a member
of Oil Painters of America in 2004. Working exclusively in oils, she has sold
her work by commission and in private shows over the past several years as well
as at the River Festival Art and Book Fair, Gallery in the Garden at Botanica,
ArtSpree for Three Trees, Inc., Reflections of Hope for HopeNet, Susan’s Floral
and The First Place. In 2003 Susan began studying sculpture with Babs Mellor in
Wichita to expand her understanding of classical portraiture. Her work is
represented in various private collections throughout the United States and
Canada.
